So I wrote this last night, but the internet connection at the hotel wasn’t very good and the post was lost. Anyway, I’m not sure where I heard about Boldt Castle, I think it was from a Travel Trivia e-mail. George Boldt, owner of the Waldorf Astoria hotel, bought Heart Island in Alexandria Bay as a place to build a castle for his wife. She died before it was finished, and George was so sad he told the workers to stop working and never returned to the island. You can read more about it here.
Most of the castle has been restored, but they are still working on the top 2 floors and they allow people to tour those areas also. The Yacht House is normally a tour option, but the water was too high so we weren’t able tour it and only got photos from the island and the boat. The weather was perfect!
On the way to Alexandria Bay we drove on the Palisades Parkway, what a beautiful drive.
