Our first day began at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. Dan wanted to see the chapel, and when we arrived we found out of course it’s under construction for the next 2 years! The views were beautiful. From there we drove to Garden of the Gods and Pike’s Peak. On Pike’s Peak you can drive as far as mile 16, then take a bus to the top at mile 19. We stopped at mile 12, at the tree line. That’s where people who are afraid of heights, like us, chicken out. Beautiful views again, and we saw a Bigfoot sign! Royal Gorge was next, but Michael was right, it’s a tourist trap. We didn’t pay to go on the bridge, just took a couple of photos then drove to Pueblo to meet Michael for dinner. The riverwalk in Pueblo is really nice, not crowded and the weather was perfect. Next stop, Great Sand Dunes National Park.
